skiing at mount baker in the us with 72" snow at the base:

"opening day"

mt. baker is about 200km away from vancouver. the ski resort is called mt. baker but actually it isn't mt. baker, it is just in the area of mt. baker. I don't know why but they get tones of snow every year, so this year. the record they had in 98-99 was 11 meters and this was not what they got in the whole year, it was just what they had at measured at one day.

line in front of the ticket sale, we had to wait about 1 hour. staff said it was the busiest day they can remember.

it didn't stopped to snow

I got a ticket :-), I will put this in a picture frame

joost, the guy with whom I drove to mt. baker, is works at ubc and is from Netherlands

finally we were on the mountain, it was just amazing, joost riding

I don't know if the word deep is enough to describe this powder

playing with the snow

we did this drop, unfortunately we didn't take a picture

can you see anybody?

it was so soft to jump, you could go down everywhere, that was just crazy, joost

riding through a canyon

me

you had to be careful about where you go, otherwise you would stick in the snow and had to dig you out for at least half a hour

joost jumping down

well, no one of us, this guy is insane, I don't want to know how big this drop is (and this wasn't even the biggest I have seen at this day)

crazy

joost riding through the trees

get a movie of a powder run powder ride mt baker.MPG (5mb)

no worries, we didn't go there, I am now old enough to know this

we rather skied in an area with trees, that is really awesome here, you can (and you are allowed) to go everywhere

pro rider steppe openly :-) (well, actually the pro rider got old and everything was sore the next day)

an interesting thing about skiing in the states: the don't have anything which prevents to fall out of a chair lift

well, that was the record in '99. 11m of snow (there is a mark on the the column)

last ride for the pro rider at that day (because he was tired)

the snow was "big", but the cars are even BIGGER

joost, tired

on the way home
